Starting yesterday, at about 09:00 we had two Agate wolves 472 and 517 being followed by two Mollie wolves, there was no sign of Agate alpha Big Blaze, someone noticed blood on one of the Mollies. Speculation followed as to what had happened to the Agate male, he was not seen all day, it did not look good.
On to today, first we had the Blacktail wolves near Elk Creek, all nine of them, they were in view for about an hour as they headed west and treated us to a great howling sesion before going out of sight. We tried to pick them up from Lower Hellroaring but no luck, people found them later from Upper Hellroaring.
I moved on to Little America where I saw a big blue van with a platform on top but all was not lost. Further along the road at Mid Point we had 360deg howling from different packs. We found the grey female that is trying to join the Druids on the south Peregrine Hill, howling then I found the rest of the Druids and the two males on the north Peregrine. Snow showeres from time to time made for bad visibility but for the most part it was OK.
For the good news regarding the Agate alpha,I had nothing but resting Druids to watch so I started scoping around and up on top of Specimen Ridge where I found two animals, they were wolves Agate 472 and the alpha male Big Blaze, he looked good but he seemed to have a limp it was good to see he was alive and well.
Later in the afternoon we found the two Mollies with the other Agate female 517.
A strange incident as I was leaving the park,it was dark, as I rounded a curve there was something in the middle of the road, I slowed, it looked like an elk, as I got closer it turned out to be a cow elk with a full grown calf nursing, in the middle of the road
